Complete Itinerary

Below is the standard itinerary of the Holy Land Pilgrimage. The departures for the Holy tour are arranged from Chennai, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Cochin, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

• Day 01 - India, Amman

  Assemble at the International Airport, atleast 3 hours before the departure time. You will be met by our bible tour representative. Once the flight lands at Amman, the capital of Jordan.

    Our Lady at Nazareth

    In May 2007. Bible Tours organised a mega event, participated by 85 priests and 1200 Laity.

    We will offer our prayers to Our Lady of Vailankanni on the third day of the holy land pilgrimage, when we visit the Basilica of Annunciation.

    
    

• Day 02 - Mount Nebo, Jericho

  On the second day of the Bible Tour, we will cover two important places - The church at Madaba and Mount Nebo, before proceeding towards Israel.

  After Breakfast proceed to Madaba (the cit of Mosaics), Greek Orthodox Church of St.George, Mount Nebo, the final station in the life of the prophet Moses, from where Moses viewed the Promised Land that he would never enter.

  Proceed to the Holy Land to be welcomed by our guide at Allen by Bridge, Proceed to Jericho, view the Qarantal, the traditional Mount of Temptation and Sycamore Tree. Then proceed to hotel for dinner and stay overnight.

    St.George Church at Madaba

    Madaba is most famouse for the mosaic map, that was once a clear map with 157 captions (in Greek) of all major biblical sites from Lebanon to Egypt, with Jerusalem depicted at the exact center of the Map.

    The pilgrims of Bible Tours very much carry home the memory of seeing the 5th Century Artistic Muerels made of Ceramic.

    Mt.Nebo

    Mount Nebo is the Holy place where the Prophet Moses was given a view of the promised land of Israel, that God was giving to the Jews. It is widely beleived that Moses was buried here by God Himself.

    It is also beleived that the Ark of Covenant is hidden somewhere on Mt.Nebo

    
    

    We climb up Mount Nebo, and witness the sight of the promised land, shown to Moses by God. The land where Joshua led the Israelies.

    We offer prayers at the Church on top of the Mount. And at the Serpentine Cross.

    
    Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land.... Then the Lord said to him, "This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, 'I will give it to your descendents.'"

    Memorial of Moses

    This is the Memorial, dedicated in memory of Moses, by the Pope.

    Mount of Temptation

    Jesus wandered for 40 days & nights as he fasted and prayed. This is also where Satan tried to tempt Jesus by showing him all the desires of this world.

• Day 03 - Nazareth, Cana

  Nazareth - Church of the Annunciation, Mary's house and Joseph's workshop. Visit to Cana, where we renew our marriage vows at the place where Jesus performed his first miracle of changing water into wine. Enroute to Tiberias view Mt Tabor. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

    Basilica of Annunciation

    Basilica of Annunciation, is one of the Holiest Site. It is built over the place, which was once home of Virgin Mary. This is the very place where Archangel Gabriel, appeared before Mary, and announced to her, that she will bear the son of God.

    We will offer our prayers at Our Lady of Vailankanni, which was installed in the Church during a mega event organised by Bible Tours.

    On the Altar - the words " Verbum Caro Hic Factum Est" - "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.".

    And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

    St.Mary's Well

    St.Mary's Well, is the place from which St.Mary and Jesus used to draw water. And from that time on, this well has provided water to the whole village.

    Church of St.Joseph

    The Church of St.Joseph, is build over St.Joseph's workshop, where young Jesus learnt carpentry. It is also widely beleived that this was the house of the Holy family.

    Cana Wedding Church

    Long revered as the site of Jesus' first miracle or turning water into wine at a wedding.

• Day 04 - Mount of Beatitude, Capernaum, Sea of Galilee

  After Breakfast, visit Mount of Beatitude where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount, continue to Capernaum where we visit Jesus Synagogue and the house St. Peter. Proceed to the primacy of Peter, where Jesus appeared to his disciples after the resurrection and where he performed the miraculous catch of 153 fish and conferred Church authority upon Peter. Continue on to Tabgha, the traditional site of the multiplication of loaves and fish, followed ny a boat ride on the sea of Galilee.

  Travel to Ardent where we renew our baptismal vows right at the Jordan River, visit the Mother Church of the Carmelite Order and Elijah's Cave. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel

    Mount of Beatitudes

    This is the hill upon which Jesus was said to have preached the "Sermon on the Mount". The church on Beatitudes is built on the hill.

    The modern glass church which is built on top of the House of St.Peter.

    Sea of Galilee

    The Sea of Galilee is located in the east side of the Galilee, in the north of Israel. It is a large sweet water lake

    Jesus recruited four of his disciples from the shores of the Galilee.

    Jesus performed the miracle of walking on water on the sea of Galilee. Bible Tours takes the pilgrims on a fulka over the sea of Galilee to commemerate the miracle of Christ.

    We will also see the St.Peters fish, Jesus performed a miracle of taking a copper coin to pay the tax, from the fishes mouth.

    Yardenit - Baptism site

    This is the holiest of Baptism sites, this was the place where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist.

    "Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John" When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well please

• Day 05 - Jerusalem Old city, Via Dolorosa, Golgotha

  After Breakfast proceed to Jerusalem and enter the Old City, continue on foot to the Church of Condemnation and Flagellation, where we begin the Via Dolorosa (way of sorrow). The third station commemorates Christ's first fall on the Via Dolorosa. The place is marked by a small chapel belonging to the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate. The meeting between Jesus and his Mother is commemorated by a small oratory. An inscription on the architrave of one door recalls the encounter between Jesus and Simon the Cyrenian, Greek Catholics preserves the memory of the meeting between Jesus and Veronica. The place of Jesus' second fall is marked by a pillar, which rises at the crossroads between the Via Dolorosa and picturesque and lively Market Street. On the outer wall of a Greek Orthodox monastery is carved a small cross blackened by time. It was at that point that Jesus met the pious women. The third fall of Jesus is commemorated by a column of the Roman period at the entrance to the Coptic monastery. Then we enter the church of Holy Sepulchre. Thereafter walk to the Dominion Abby and the traditional site of the Tomb of King David and the other Upper room. We end the day with our visit to the Western wall considered to be the holiest site for the Jews. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

    Lions Gate

    We enter the old city of Jerusalem vis the Lions Gate.

    Monastery of Flagellation

    We walk the way taken by Jesus Christ, before he was crucified. Monastery of the Flagellation, where Jesus was questioned by Pilate and then condemned. "Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe".

    Holy Sepulchre

    The last five Stations of the Cross are situated inside the Holy Sepulchre. Follow the footsteps of our Lord Jesus on his way to Calvary, culminating the journey to Golgotha and the place of the tomb itself- the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

    Upper Room

    The Last Supper Room - where we remember the Last Supper and the descent of the Holy spirit upon the Apostles on Pentecost. The Upper Room (Last Supper) is the place where Jesus celebrated his final passover with his disciples. It is located directly above the Tomb of David and near the Dormition Abbey on Mount Zion.

    Jesus' disciples asked him, "Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, "Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. "Say to the owner of the house he enters, 'The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?' He will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there." (Mark 14:12-15)

• Day 06 - Bethlehem, Mount of Olives and Gethsemane

  After breakfast proceed to Bethlehem, the Shepherd's Field and the Church of Nativity. Visit St Jeromes Grotto where the Bible was translated from Hebrew. Visit Mount of Olives, the church of Ascension and the church of Peter Noster. Descend to Dominus Flevit where Jesus wept over Jerusalem, proceed to the garden of Gethsemane, Basilica of the Agony and the Tomb of St. Mary. Visit the traditional House of Caipas where Peter denied Jesus thrice and where Jesus was kept in the dungeon.

  Then proceed to Ein karem, one of the most beautiful settings near Jerusalem, located in the hills next to a little spring. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

    Sheperds Field

    The fields identified since ancient times with the shepherds who saw the Star of Nativity.

    And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people."

    Church of Nativity

    The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem is a major Christian holy site, as it marks the traditional place of Christ's birth. It is also one of the oldest surviving Christian churches.

    Chapel of Ascension

    The Chapel of the Ascension in Jerusalem is a Christian holy site from where Jesus ascended into heaven. The small round church contains a stone imprinted with the very footprints of Jesus.

    Garden of Gethsemane

    Visitors to of the Garden of Gethsemane are amazed when they learn that the gnarled olive trees they see could have been young saplings when Jesus came here with the disciples on that fateful night after the Last Supper (Matt. 26:36; Mark 14:32; John 18:1). Today the ancient trees rise from manicured flower beds; in Jesus’ time this would have been an olive grove where an olive-oil press – gethsemane in Greek – was located.

• Day 07 - Bethany, Dead Sea

  Check out of the hotel early in the morning. We begin the day with the visit to Bethany the house of Martha, Mary and Lazarus (Lazarus Tomb). Proceed to Dead Sea. You can float in the dead sea, cover yourself with the medicinal mud, and swim in a freshwater pool afterwards. Proceed to Qumran and Red Sea.

    House Mary, Martha and Lazarus

    Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were brother and sisters. They all lived in the town of Bethany, which was situated only a few miles outside of Jerusalem. They were believers, and worked together to host Jesus and his disciples when he stayed in Bethany.

    Dead Sea

    This was a place of refuge for King David. It is the lowest sea on earth. The water here is so dense, that people can float on it, without any effort.

    We spend a few hours here, experiencing the healing effects of the dead sea.

• Day 08 - Jerusalem – Taba Mt.Sinai

  After Breakfast proceed to Taba Border at Mt Sinai check into Hotel

    Qumraan

    We view the dead sea scroll caves from a viewpoint. This is the place from which the earliest scrolls about Jesus were retreived.

    We cross the Taba Border onto Egypt.

    Mt. Sinai

    This is the place where Moses delivered the Ten Commandments of God to the people.

    We start early, climb the Mount before dawn, to witness the splendid sunrise.

• Day 09 - Mt. Sinai – Catherine Monastery

  We start with a night Climb Mt Sinai Reach the Peak early morning and return to hotel for breakfast and proceed to Catherine Monastery, Red Sea, Suez Canal, Mara Well and reach Cairo in the night. Retire after dinner at the hotel in Cairo.

    Monastery of St.Catherine

    Catherine of Alexandria was a Christian martyr initially sentenced to death on the wheel. However, when this failed to kill her, she was beheaded. Angels took her remains to Mount Sinai. Around the year 800, monks from the Sinai Monastery found her remains.

    Red Sea

    The Biblical book of Exodus tells the story of the Israelites' miraculous crossing the red sea, after Moses divided the water, allowing for a passage to be created.

    Suez Canal

    Suez Canal is a magnificient man made canal, that connects the Mediteranean to the Indian Ocean.

• Day 10 - Cairo

  After Breakfast to the city tour, make a visit sphinx & Pyramids and few Churches / River Nile. Transfer to airport back to India.
